My few hazy memories of my Grandfather all seem to relate to a single warm, balmy day at Brighton pier.
I remember being just old enough to go on my first merry go round, and Granddad convincing the ride operator to let me go on.
The photo is unchanged from the moment it was taken, using a plastic optic in a selective-focus lens. The plastic filter provides a soft and dreamy blur, while the bendy lens allows the photographer to move the focus to any part of the viewed scene.
I'm really enjoying learning how to use an optic that is designed to not be sharp and in focus, which is a complete opposite of everything I normally look for in a shot. I have to confess that I'm falling in love with it.
